Restoration & Craftsmanship
Restoring maritime pieces for a new life
Most of our pieces come from ships dismantled at Alang, near our base in Bhavnagar, India. Before a piece is offered to you, it is inspected and restored, and lights are rewired with new components and tested. This page explains each step.

Our story
From maritime history to your space
Each piece carries the character of maritime design, carefully prepared for its next chapter.
Bhavnagar district, on the Gulf of Khambhat, is home to Alang, one of the largest ship-recycling centres in the world, where ocean-going vessels are dismantled at the end of their working lives. Most of our pieces come from ships dismantled there: lights, instruments and fittings built for years at sea, many of them in brass, copper and aluminium.
We inspect what we source, restore it to working order and, for lights, rewire it with new components. Then we pack it for the journey and ship it worldwide. The steps below explain what that means in practice, and where the details depend on the individual piece.
Our process
From the ship to your space, step by step
What happens to a piece between the ship and your door.
01
Sourcing
We source pieces mainly from ships dismantled at Alang, close to our base in Bhavnagar. Not every piece comes from Alang, and we do not name a ship or give a date unless it is documented. Where we know a piece’s origin, its product page says so.
02
Inspection
Each piece is selected for its character, materials and condition before it joins the collection.
03
Cleaning & restoration
Pieces are cleaned and carefully restored to be fully functional while keeping their authentic character. The work depends on the piece, so if you want to know what was done to an item, ask us before you order.
04
Electrical preparation
Our lights are rewired with new, high-quality components, ready for modern spaces. Custom-length brass down rods are available on request.
We do not claim certification to any national electrical standard. If your project needs a particular voltage, bulb fitting or certification, tell us before you order and we will confirm what is possible.
05
Quality check
Every light is tested before it ships.
06
Packaging
Heavy or fragile pieces are packed in wooden crates. Smaller items are well padded in boxes.
07
Dispatch
We ship worldwide from Bhavnagar, India, and email you tracking details once your order ships. Shipping is quoted for your destination and the size of your order. International shipping →
Product descriptions
Understanding our product descriptions
We offer salvaged, vintage and restored pieces alongside nautical-inspired décor, so the words we use matter. A product is described with these terms only where they apply, based on what we know about that piece.
Authentic salvaged
Removed from a ship. We use this only when we know the piece came from a vessel, for example one dismantled at Alang.
Vintage
An older piece whose age is supported by what we know about it. We do not give a year or decade unless it is documented.
Restored
Restoration work has actually been carried out on the piece. Where we can, the product page says what was done.
Rewired
A light that has been rewired with new components.
Nautical inspired
A newer piece made in a maritime style. It is not salvaged, and we do not present it as an antique.
Reproduction
A newer copy of a historical design. If we offer one, it is labelled as a reproduction.
A piece can carry more than one term, for example a salvaged light that has been restored and rewired. If a term is not shown on a product, we do not claim it.
Condition
Every piece has its own character
Because many of our pieces are vintage, salvaged or individually restored, natural variations in surface, patina and character may occur. Product-specific condition details should be reviewed before purchase.
- Surface and patina vary from piece to piece
- Small marks or signs of previous use may remain
- Two pieces of the same type can differ
- Restoration may keep some original character on purpose
Want more detail on a piece?
Ask us about any piece before you order: its condition, what was restored, or for more photos.
This is about character, not quality: every light is tested before it ships.
